Boys XC Goes to State For 3rd Straight Time

The WHS Boys Cross Country Team punched their ticket to the State Championship Meet held in Round Rock on November 9, 2019. Luke Lambert, Shimeles Abdellatif, Dylan Pitts, Samuel Espinosa, Daniel Salazar, Aidan Carter, and Hunter Jackson secure the third straight appearance for Pirates at the state competition by finishing 4th as a team at the UIL Region II Championship held in Dallas at the Jessie
Owens Sports Complex.

The team was led by Luke Lambert who finished 4th overall with his third school record time in as many weeks of 15:11. With an average of 15:48 for the first five runners, this was the best race of the season for the AHMO XC Team. Also medaling in the meet was Shimeles Abdellatif, who finished 10th overall.
Rounding out the team was Dylan Pitts (25th), Samuel Espinosa (38th), Daniel Salazar (62nd), Aidan Carter (95th), and Hunter Jackson (135th).

The boys athlete of the week was Shimeles Abdellatif, whose time of 15:26 moved him up to the 2nd fastest Pirate in the history of the program, earned him an individual medal at the Regional Meet, and helped propel his team to the State Meet.
